Mission

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Daily Tram Quality Inspection
    • Conduct quality inspections and release acceptance checks on trams after completion of Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM).
    • Verify that maintenance work has been completed in accordance with approved maintenance procedures, work instructions, and technical standards.
    • Ensure trams released for service comply with the Company's safety, quality, and operational requirements.
    • Identify non-conformities and promptly raise issues with the relevant maintenance teams, following up on corrective actions as required.

    2. Major Inspection and Critical Component Examination

    • Perform and assist in scheduled major inspections and overhaul inspections of tram vehicles. Inspection scope includes, but is not limited to:- 
    • Underframe and car body structure; Bogies; Wheels and wheelsets; Axles; Bearings; Brake systems and associated mechanical components; Traction motors and drive systems; Large and small gears; and other safety-critical components
    • Assess the serviceability of components based on maintenance standards, dimensional limits, and inspection criteria.
    3. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
    • Conduct inspections of safety-critical tram components using ultrasonic testing and other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods in accordance with established procedures.
    • Inspection scope may include axles, motor shafts, gears, and other designated components.
    • Record, evaluate, and report inspection findings, and follow up on any abnormalities identified.
    • Candidates holding a recognized NDT Level II qualification (e.g., Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, or Dye Penetrant Testing) will be given preference.
    4. Post-Maintenance Quality Acceptance
    • Carry out final quality inspections and acceptance checks for trams that have undergone maintenance, major repairs, or overhauls.
    • Verify that all maintenance activities, testing, measurements, and documentation comply with required standards before approving vehicles for service.
    • Assist in ensuring inspection and maintenance records are complete, accurate, and fully traceable.
    5. Accident and Failure Investigation Support
    • Conduct special inspections and technical investigations following tram-related accidents, major failures, or safety incidents as required.
    • Assist in collecting, recording, and preserving technical evidence, measurement data, and inspection findings.
    • Support investigations and vehicle examinations conducted by management, engineering teams, the Police, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), and other relevant government or external organizations.
    6. Quality Monitoring and Audit Support
    • Assist in monitoring the quality of rolling stock maintenance activities and frontline staff compliance with established procedures and standards.
    • Record and report non-conformities, recurring defects, and potential quality issues.
    • Assist in implementing corrective actions and verifying the effectiveness of remedial measures.
    • Support internal and external quality audits, including inspections and reviews conducted by EMSD.
    7. Special and Ad Hoc Inspection Activities
    • Conduct ad hoc and special vehicle inspections in response to operational needs.
    • Support fleet-wide or targeted inspections when abnormal conditions, recurring failures, safety concerns, or special operational events arise.
    • Assist in reliability improvement, quality improvement, and safety-related projects.
    • Perform other duties related to quality assurance, inspection, safety, and accident investigation as assigned by supervisors.

    Profile

    Requirements

    • Certificate, Diploma, or Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related technical discipline; alternatively, equivalent relevant work experience.
    • Experience in vehicle maintenance, railway systems, heavy machinery, marine engineering, or mechanical inspection/quality control is preferred.
    • Knowledge of basic mechanical inspection techniques, measurement tools, and engineering drawings.
    • Ability to work independently, identify abnormalities, and accurately document inspection results.
    • Strong safety and quality awareness, with attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining established standards.
    • Ability to read and understand basic English technical documents, maintenance procedures, and inspection standards.
    • Basic computer literacy and report-writing skills.
    • Holders of a recognized NDT Level II qualification will be given preference.
    • Experience in the inspection of railway/tram wheels, axles, bogies, brake systems, or drive systems is an advantage.
